A couple of summers ago I had some of the best horse friends a girl could ask for. Don't get me wrong - I have some great horse friends. Wonderful friends actually. But my old group was special. Maybe it's because we were wild and western, I'm not sure. I just know that we made the best of the short time we had together and those times will never be forgotten.
I'm on the far left on my horse Tracey. My best cowgirl friend Lana is on the far right. She was so much fun, not afraid of anything. Imagine a classically trained dressage rider in a western saddle - she was graceful and capable on horseback. We would be trail riding and all of a sudden she'd jump the ditch next to the road or jump a fallen log. I'm convinced her horse would take her just about anywhere. Becky is the blonde next to me - that girl could ride anything. She was a sweet spirit from Germany and had a lot of horse savvy. She was one of those people who just looked good on a horse. Any horse.
Well my old friends may be gone, but not forgotten...I'll always remember "man cakes" and campfires, trail rides and taco night. Riding on the beach and waiting out the rain, mud up to our knees and flasks of whiskey. Oh, and who could forget playing charades? I never laughed so hard in my entire life.
